Social Responsibility

AES Com is committed to special projects concerned to improve life quality of the community where it keeps business operations. Since 2006, AES Com has contributed to the Municipal Fund for the Rights of Children and Teenagers, and has sponsored several of social projects.

In 2006, AES Com sponsored a Computer Classroom at
Georg Pfisterer Municipal School, located in Gavea, Rio de Janeiro. The project included an architectural refurbishment, installation of computers and Internet access. The initiative put the students in contact with the digital universe, an important achievement to complement their formal education and professional development in this new on-line world.

In May 2007, Abrinq Foundation, an entity that defends children and teenagers rights and citizenship, conferred AES Com the title “Child Friendly Company”. This title is a recognition for companies’ projects in favor of education, health and welfare of children and adolescents, such as the project “Art in School” promoted by AES Com.

To be awarded with this certification the company must fulfill ten commitments established by the institution, including to respect the young worker, to provide day care allowance to employees’ children, to encourage pre-natal and breastfeeding and to contribute to the Municipal Fund of the Rights of Children and Adolescents.

Art in School - SESI Project

AES Com together with SESI – Industry Social Service - Cultural Program also develops cultural productions in municipal public schools in Rio de Janeiro.  The activities are developed along the year and culminate with public presentations involving students and teachers at the end of the school year in December.

The intention of the company is to improve the quality of life of children and teenagers, stimulating them to learn in class and in extra-class activities such as workshops and forums about social and cultural subjects.

Another initiative, named “Art in School Project”, started in 2006 at
Georg Pfisterer Municipal School. It produced two different presentations: a theater play and a puppet theater performed by 7th and 6th grade students, respectively.

Aware of the good results achieved by the project, the company decided to expand it to other schools. In 2007, four new projects were conducted at Pedro Alvares Cabral State School, at Camilo Castelo Branco Municipal School and at George Pfisterer Muncipal School. The projects included puppet shows, theater plays and a popular music band.

In 2008, six social projects were developed, in Pedro Álvares Cabral school and Georg Pfisterer school, including videos whose themes deal with the students’ reality: the school, their family relationship and the community where they live and puppet theaters made bay the students using recycled material, which donated by AES Com’s employees.

In 2009, new classes and new activities were started. This year, projects are being developed in 3 municipal schools: Pedro Álvares Cabral, João Alfredo and Sociedade Amantes da Instrução. In Pedro Álvares Cabral, workshops of dance are being held for 50 students and puppets theater (made of pet bottles) classes for 30 students, one of the specialties of the project. In João Alfredo, theater classes are being held for 40 students and in Sociedade Amantes da Instrução, a choir with nearly 40 students was formed.

The final presentation will be performed in November, at SESI Theater, in Rio de Janeiro and will receive as the audience the students, their families and AES Brazil Group.
