Points of Presence

AES Com has installed network equipment at strategic places. These locations are known as Points of Presence or PoPs. From these equipments AES Com can quickly connect customers in the building or in the neighborhood. The idea behind PoPs is two folded: to decrease the time to deliver the service and to minimize installation costs for AES Com and, as a consequence, to the customer.

PoPs take the network close to where business is taking place. PoPs’ locations are based on a detailed market study that indicates areas, blocks or even buildings with great demand for telecommunications services. The locations can also be chosen for technical reasons, whenever Network Planning group realizes that the deployment of a PoP could accelerate or even make feasible the installation of new customers in the neighborhood.

Currently AES Com has 138 Points of Presence spread over the cities where the network is deployed. A group of experienced negotiators is continuously prospecting and negotiating with potential new buildings. That makes the number of PoPs increase continuously and stretches the network closer to the customer.  

Originally created for SDH network, PoPs are being expanded with MetroEthernet equipment, expanding the MetroEthernet network itself. Along 2007, twelve new Ethernet PoPs were deployed and nine others will be deployed until the end of the year.
