Committed to the preservation of environment, AES Com stimulates initiatives to reduce the impact of environmental risks in its operations.

The company has a selective garbage collecting system and motivates its employees to properly dispose their waste. Monthly, the Municipal Cooperative of Garbage Collectors makes the collection and recycles all material collected. The employees frequently bring from home batteries and used cooking oil to be recycled.

AES Com promotes educative campaigns on “World Environment Day” week. In 2008 the  campaign aimed at the rational use of resources like water, energy, cellulose, carbon dioxide emission’s decrease with the theme “Education for sustainability. These campaigns sensitize and inform AES Com’s employees about the importance of environment preservation for the sustainability of the planet and enhancement of quality of life by changing behaviors and attitudes of people.

Besides these motivating initiatives, the week is also used to start some practices in defense of rational use of natural resources, such as, installation of automatic taps and flush valves to avoid wasting water and the start-up of a policy to diminish the use of paper copies, stimulating people to refrain from unnecessary printing. Another policy initiated was the use of recycled paper for all company’s documents. Almost the entire fleet of vehicles is fueled with alcohol that does not pollute the air. Some few vehicles fueled with diesel are inspected once a year by a governmental organ which monitors the level of pollutants released to the atmosphere.

Creativity is also a component at AES Com’s environmental policy. Part of leftover of optical cable used in the installation and maintenance of AES Com’s network is turned into ornaments and gifts with company’s logo and given away to customers and employees. The rest of the leftover is sent to a recycling company where it is triturated and supplied as raw material to an asphalt industry.
